So I Watched The Scorpion King 2

These B movies are a guilty pleasure

You know how sometimes when there is nothing to watch and you just endlessly browse Netflix, looking for something to catch your eye? The other night I came across The Scorpion King 2: Rise of a Warrior, a prequel to the 2002 film starring Dywane Johnson. This movie was one of those typical straight to DVD movies with a limited budget and more cheese on it than a thick based pizza but that made me enjoy it even more. There’s something about these kinds of movies that just does the trick for being an entertaining romp. It didn’t take itself too seriously which is why I think it was so much fun to watch for starters and while it didn’t have a budget on the scale of a big studio blockbuster, it still had nice looking set pieces. The final boss in the movie was practically invisible which I suspect was due to the budget but with some clever camera work they still managed to make the fight exciting and fun. The plot had very little depth and some of the characters did the dumbest things for the sake of it looking cool. I mean, sure an ancient Goddess could just zap our heroes to death with a wave of her hand but it is cooler to have her get into an intense sword fight with one of the characters to prove a point. The characters spew one liners and sly smirks while there is chaos erupting around them and all of this is purely for that ‘cool factor’. You have to take the movie for what it is, it’s corny and it’s fun.

So if you’re in the mood for something light and easy going with cool fight scenes and more cheese than what you’d find in a cheesy garlic bread, then go give this movie a shot. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
