You know how it is. When you’re bored, you scroll Youtube to see what’s what. Well, our phones are attached to our hips these days and I’ve found myself attached to a certain kind of channel on Youtube. These channels recap movies. That’s right, movie recap channels! And what’s more is some of them analyse the themes of the movie as well (I love it when they do that).
And you know how it goes when you watch one video? A wormhole opens up and you end up on an endless suggestion list of similar videos until you have lost track of time and all of these channels are filling up your suggestions. I don’t even know which channel started my obsession with these channels, but I’ve subbed to quite a few. I still enjoy watching movies and I often spend time on Netflix, but when I don’t feel like doing anything—these channels come in handy. Although they outright recap the film and reveal spoilers, oddly enough, it doesn’t make me not want to see the movie in question. In fact, it makes me want to watch the movies even more.
The fun part is, it is essentially watching bite size movies. A two-hour movie would be recapped in 15-20 minutes (with going over the themes). It’s actually a lot of fun. Though it doesn’t beat watching an actual film, it has substituted where time has been limited or the means of getting these odd movies is a bit difficult.
So this is my guilty pleasure when I’m tossing and turning at night, unable to sleep. Or to have it playing in the background while I shower.
These quick movie channels are filling a gap I never knew existed.
