And So, Fortnite’s Metaverse Expands

The Metaverse expands in Fortnite!

Fortnite is well on its way to creating its own metaverse full of characters from other franchises like God of War, Halo, Walking Dead, and Alien to name a few. Many are comparing it to Ready Player One, but as an actual game.

Though, personally, I’m finding the current season more of a slog than anything else, Fortnite has just secured a big investment from Sony and with it the addition of a character from a certain Sony franchise…

Horizon Zero Dawn x Fortnite

It should come as no surprise that Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn would be a well-matched character for this season given its primal theme and the orange forests that have appeared in the new points of interest. It all has a very Horizon Zero Dawn-feel to it and Aloy fits right in.

But Aloy isn’t the only news to come from this crossover. Sony has invested a lot of money into Fortnite, further cementing their relationship with Epic Games. This won’t mean that Fortnite becomes a Sony Exclusive (that would be bad for business for Epic.)

But it does mean we may see more exclusive deals and skins for PlayStation players and a lot of crossovers. Sony has a ton of exclusives; so, I can easily imagine a Drake from Uncharted, Ellie and Joel from The Last of Us or some more characters from God of War or Horizon Zero Dawn. I mean, they can’t just do the main characters, right?

It is an exciting time for Fortnite in terms of where it is going. There’s no denying that Fortnite is a machine that just keeps on moving. I hope more crossovers from Xbox are released too, such as some Sea of Thieves-inspired cosmetics or maybe a few Gears of War characters. But for now, Epic Games and Sony are cuddling up for Winter.
