Fortnite Chapter 2: Season 6: Primal Impressions

A quick look at the new Fortnite season.

Fortnite’s new seasons have been pushing envelopes this past year. Since Chapter 2 introduced a new map that completely changed the flow of the game, the seasons have been adding and changing so much with the addition of NPCs and a new currency to grind for.

This season has taken it a step further by adding wildlife to hunt for parts to craft with. Though I have to confess, I’m not the biggest fan of this season. It’s a good season, the skins are really cool, especially the Lara Croft skin but the flow of this season feels a bit off to me…

Lara Croft Enters The Fray

Before I get to any of that, I love the fact that the Tomb Raider herself has entered the game. Lara Croft is one of my favourite video game characters, up there next to Geralt of Rivia and Ezio. So, having her new trilogy variant and her classic and PS1 graphics variant in the game is a bonus. She’s hands down the best skin in the Battle Pass next to Agent Jones who has some cool variants as well.

The Map

The map changes are always nice with this season adopting a more primal aesthetic. There are camps are made of dinosaur bones while the new forest areas look primeval with red grass and trees. The addition of wild life is nice too with boars, wolves, frogs and goofy looking chickens players can hunt for different resources.

The Flow

The flow of the game feels a bit off to me this season. Instead of dropping in and finding good guns to go take players out for a quick match, I find myself sulking around looking for animals to hunt or cars to break so I can turn my crappy makeshift gun into something better.

The guns are all over the place and the game just feels slower to me. It could be Fortnite fatigue seeping through. Although I grinded the last season quite hard, this season just feels like a chore to get through.

The game is still fun with friends but I’m having a hard time keeping focused on it when I’m playing solo which is a first for me.

How are you finding the new season?
