The Road to Valhalla: A Retrograde Look At The Worst DLC In Assassin’s Creed Syndicate

What were they thinking?

I’m going to be blunt. What the f*ck Ubisoft?

When I saw the Darwin and Dickens Conspiracy as bonus content for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, I got excited. I really enjoyed spending time with Charles Dickens and Charles Darwin as their missions were quite fun.

Dickens had me investigating some urban myths around London at the time, such as the legend of Spring Heeled Jack. Darwin had me protecting his reputation from those who would smear him.

Both characters were fun to run around with, so I was looking forward to the Darwin and Dickens Conspiracy only to be met with what I am calling the worst DLC ever.

AC Syndicate

All The Conspiracy And No Charles of Any Kind

You would think given the name the DLC would focus on these two characters, right?

Nope. They’re just background characters. instead you are helping some twat who has just returned to London and who is a friend of the two Charles’.

This guy is fresh off the train and is to inherit a lot of money and is to be married off to some girl he hasn’t seen before. Afraid she is out to grab his money, he comes up with an elaborate ploy to stage his own death to see if a stranger would be sad about his death.

Once he sees that said woman is teary eyed over his apparent demise, what does he do?

Stages a situation where the player has to pretend to kidnap the woman and pretend to get beaten up by this dude so he can win her heart over.

The plot was so juvenile. It left a sour taste in my mouth and I was actually happy when the DLC came to an end. Seriously, I’d rather spend time doing the Karl Marx missions than do this again. What were they thinking?
