Initially revealed as Gods & Monsters, Immortals Fenyx Rising is a Breath of The Wild looking game set in Greek mythology by the creators of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey.
The title wowed audiences at the latest Ubisoft Forward event and with good reason. I’ve been interested in this game since the initial reveal and I swooned over the gameplay reel.
The Art Style
The first thing that grabbed my fancy when the initial reveal went live last year was the game’s art style. I like cartoonish games like Fortnite and Sea of Thieves.
Immortals Fenyx Rising art style really stands out to me and the Greek aesthetics seem to blend nicely into this style. The game was being called Ubisoft’s ‘Breath of The Wild’ from the get-go by the gaming community.
You can see the reasons for the comparison in both the promotional trailer and the gameplay reel. I love this style and the world looks beautiful, which is why I can’t wait to explore it!
I’ll be hones;, Greek Mythology isn’t my favourite though it still interests me. The game takes a more light hearted approach than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. However, gameplay-wise, it shares some aspects along with featuring similar looking HUDs and menus.
The trailer below explains the game in quite a bit of detail and if it doesn’t hype you then I’m not sure what will at this point.
This is the part of this article that I’ve been wanting to get to more than anything. This is the launch of a new IP by Ubisoft, which means if this game does well we will see more in this series.
While Assassin’s Creed explores history (with a touch of mythology), maybe Immortals will be the franchise that explores mythology. Can you imagine the possibilities?
Norse Mythology, Celtic Mythology, Japanese Mythology… the possibilities are endless. I’m excited for this game but I’m more excited for the IP as a whole. If it works, there is a lot of things Ubisoft can do with this.
Immortals Fenyx Rising is slated to be released in December, which is a surprise considering it is so soon.
