ESO’s New Antiquities System Looks So Cool

The new update for ESO is adding an interesting new gameplay mechanic…

It’s no secret that The Elder Scrolls Online is getting another huge content update in the form of Greymoor, which will bring players to Western Skyrim set eight hundred years before The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It is always an exciting time when new content drops especially when the package is as large as this.

But another little thing is being added to the game, which looks just as cool as slaying Vampires in the dark heart of Skyrim is the new Antiquities System!

What is it?

The world of The Elder Scrolls is rich with lore and quite frankly, it is about time players can have a class that revolves around actually going after relics and diving into the world’s lore head first and be rewarded for it.

ESO Relic Hunter

The Antiquities System will have players scouring all of Tamriel for ancient artefacts for rewards. There will be skills to unlock to aid players in their archaeology misadventures. So, this isn’t just some random thing that was slapped onto the Greymoor expansion just for the fun of it. There is a whole lot more…

How it Works

Players will have to find leads on items and rumours. There will be potential dig sites on the map that players will have to explore as well as mini-games when it comes to actually finding these items. The two mini-games are:

  • Scrying: This is game mode focuses on getting better follow up on leads and pinpointing the items you are looking for.
  • Excavation: This is a mini-game that revolves around digging for the relic you are hunting for.

There will be skills for each mini-game, so the more players do them, the better they become at them. You can see the role in action in the official trailer below.

The idea of hunting down relics sounds like a lot of fun and I can see myself investing hours into that bit of gameplay alone. But Greymoor is adding a whole lot more and even reinventing some already existing aspects to the game.
