Toy Fair 2020 Hasbro Part I: Star Wars

A look at the Hasbro’s Star Wars Black Series figures revealed at Toy Fair 2020

The New York Toy Fair has come and gone and there is a lot to unpack. The highlight was Hasbro who showed us some much welcome surprises from their Marvel Legends line as well as some new GI Joe and Ghostbusters lines.

But before we jump into all of that, I think it’s worth going over their Star Wars The Black Series line. In comparison to everything else, this series seems not to be getting that much attention. But that isn’t stopping Hasbro from pulling rabbits out of hats with this line.

So, here is a quick look at what they had on display in their Star Wars section. If you’d like to see a full gallery photos of the event, check out ToyArk!

The Empire Strikes Back 40th Year Anniversary

The Empire Strikes Back is probably the most iconic Star Wars movie, so it was no surprise that Hasbro wanted to celebrate the movie’s 40th year anniversary with an assortment of six-inch figures.

Some of the new figures include:

  • The Prop Droid from the movie’s intro
  • A dirty R2-D2
  • ARebel Hoth Trooper (you may need a few of these as apparently they offer some customisation options)
  • Luke Skywalker in his orange pilot jumpsuit
  • Yoda with a snake
  • Lando with an updated photo-realistic head sculpt
  • Bespin Luke Skywalker
  • Princess Leia in her Hoth outfit

In addition, there are also some toys that feature The Child (Baby Yoda) from the hit Disney+ series, The Mandalorian.

I’m a bit disappointed that there wasn’t a whole lot of new Mandalorian figures but then again, Toy Fair is more for retailers to look at what’s coming in the intermediate future.

It’s SDCC where they normally go all out with future reveals and really treat fans. This Star Wars assortment does tickle my fancy though as Empire Strikes Back is my favourite film in the series.
