Nintendo has three different Switch models in the market: the original model, the revised updated model, and the Nintendo Switch Lite model. The main differences between the models are their battery life, and the Lite being cheaper than the others. However, following a recent report, it seems Nintendo may be adding another model to their line-up.
The report comes from a Taiwanese website called DigiTimes, which suggests that Nintendo is set to introduce a new Switch model sometime in 2020. According to the DigiTimes, this new Switch model will be an upgraded model that will have a magnesium alloy body and an updated CPU. While Nintendo has made no comment on a potential new console, DigiTimes has backed up this report with word from various sources in the supply stream.
While this could still be smoke with no fire, there is also supporting evidence from a previous report published in August 2019 by Wall Street Journal journalist Takashi Mochizuk. In the report, Mochizuk stated that Nintendo would have further updates to prolong the platform’s life-cycle after the last two models.
The updated model (or “Switch Pro”) would be a practical move for Nintendo if they want to compete with the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, which are due to be released at the end of the year. If the reports are to be believed, Nintendo could already be far along with the model, meaning that they could potentially start promoting it soon.
While this report could just be another rumor, there is a bit of evidence backing it up. If Nintendo does announce a new “Pro” Switch model, it would be interesting to see how the gaming community reacts to it, especially after the Lite having been released last year.
How would you feel about another Nintendo Switch Model?
