The Lego Star Wars games have always had a special place in my heart as they were first installments in the famed series of games inspired by the plastic brick toys. The slapstick humour Lego games have come to be associated with meshed well with the Star Wars theme. I remember buying the first game for my eleventh birthday and falling in love with it. It was two of my favourite things put together.
Over the years, the Lego games have expanded immensely with the likes of Batman, Lord of The Rings, and more joining in on Lego’s gaming empire. Next year, the series will once again return to its roots in the form of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
A Whole New Game
I was one of many who thought this would just be a remaster of the original games with the sequel era trilogy added in but apparently, this is going to be a whole new game. Each episode will have its own levels and feature the free roam aspect that the more modern Lego games have adopted.
I really liked how it was done in Lego Marvel Superheroes, which is one of my favourite Lego games in the series. So, this is very exciting news as I’ve always wanted a more open-world game set in a galaxy far, far away!
The game will also feature new graphics and judging by some screenshots there is actually sand and dust on the characters, which is a level of detail one wouldn’t normally expect from a Lego title.
New and Old
The most exciting part about Lego games is collecting all the characters and the fact this game spans over nine episodes can only mean the featured roster is going to be huge! The trailers have already shown that there will be a ton of characters to collect and no doubt ships to ride.
I’ll be honest, there’s a lot of great games set to be released in 2020 but this game has me hyped the most. Call it nostalgia to a bygone time where all I cared for was about beating the next level in a Lego game but I simply cannot wait to get my hands on Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. Maybe that’s what this game will be for many fans who are now toiling under the woes of adulthood. A glimpse back into our childhoods to a simpler time.
Then again, that is why Lego is timeless.
Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is slated for release sometime in 2020.
