Overwatch 2 Officially Announced At BlizzCon 2019

Blizzard officially announced Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon 2019.

Yes, it’s true! After months and months of rumors and leaks, Blizzard has officially announced Overwatch 2 at BlizzCon 2019. The publisher also revealed some of the new features and modes that game will introduce, such as new co-op missions, PvP content, hero designs, story content and much more. The sequel was revealed with an amazing cinematic trailer but no release window was provided.

Blizzard has confirmed that the game will release on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. One of the most interesting new modes is the new PvE missions. There will be two types of PvE missions: story-based and Hero missions. Players work together with their teammates using items and custom attacks, which are made available as they level up. This will be the first time that the series will feature story missions as the game’s narrative was always provided through other mediums.

As for the addition of new heroes, Blizzard remained quiet on how many new heroes the title will feature but did state that they have redesigned a few. They did announce one new hero; Sojourn but provided no other information.

As for what will happen to the original Overwatch, Blizzard did comment. They said that Overwatch and Overwatch 2 would be shared experience, meaning that all new heroes and maps coming to the sequel will be playable in the original. Players can expect the same for the sequel; any skins and add-ons in collected in the original Overwatch will carry over.

Reactions to the announcement have mixed, with some players downplaying the title as just an expensive expansion. Blizzard will surely be hoping that spirits pick up before the release of the game.
