While Sony and Microsoft are gearing up for the release of their next generation consoles, Nintendo is still seeing great returns from the Nintendo Switch, which isn’t showing a dip in popularity three after release. Nintendo has revealed that according to its internal data, the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo Switch Lite have sold over 15 million units in North America since launch.
Commenting on the figures, President of Nintendo of America Doug Bowser stated, “As we enter our third holiday season, Nintendo Switch is creating smiles and enjoying broad appeal, with more than 15 million consumers across North America playing their favorite games whenever and wherever they like.” The figure is definitely a milestone for Nintendo as the Switch has topped the Wii U’s lifetime sales of 13.56 million units on a single continent. As for global sales, the Switch has sold 36.87 million units as of June 2019.

This isn’t the only sales figures Nintendo released as the company also revealed that 14 Nintendo Switch games have sold more than one million copies. Four games have sold more than six million copies, including titles such as: Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
It seems that momentum for the Switch hasn’t died down and that the Switch Lite has just added fuel to the fire. If the rumoured Switch Pro turns out to be real, it could make the Nintendo Switch one of the highest selling consoles to date. It will be interesting to see whether Nintendo will be able to keep the momentum when Sony and Microsoft release their new consoles.
