It seems that the upcoming Mortal Kombat film is really starting to shape up. New Line has announced a couple of castings for some of the most beloved characters in the series. They announced that they have found their Sonya Blade in the form of The Meg’s Jessica McNamee, while Superstore’s Josh Lawson will be playing her nemesis Kano. In addition, Chin Han will play the sorceress Shang Tsung, Hiroyuki Sanada will appear as Scorpion, Power Ranger’s Ludi Lin as Liu Kang, Joe Taslim as Sub-Zero, Tadanobu Asano as Raiden, Mehcad Brooks as Jax, and Sisi Stringer as Mileena.
While New Line has confirmed that these actors will be playing these characters in the film, some are still in the process of negotiating for their roles. According to The Hollywood Reporter, McNamee is in final negotiations, while Lawson’s deal is set in stone. They’ve also reported that Lewis Tan is also in final talks for playing a lead character in the film but it’s unclear who he will be playing, with the most likely suspects being Kung Lao or even Johnny Cage.
The news of Scorpion and Shang Tsung is quite huge as they are big characters in the series. There is a lot hype surrounding the 2021 Mortal Kombat film.Writer Greg Russo has released quite a bit of information that has excited fans, including the fact that the film is set to have an “R” rating, include fatalities from the game, and that it won’t bog itself down by including too many characters (although some may not think that from the current cast list).
This news suggests that the Mortal Kombat may be coming along nicely. The film is set to premier sometime in 2021.
