It seems we finally have an update on Nioh 2. Developer Team Ninja revealed some key artwork and the first screenshots of the highly-anticipated sequel to 2017’s Nioh. These screenshots were released by creative director Tom Lee who revealed that they will accompany a special announcement at the Tokyo Game Show, where a playable demo will be available.
As of writing, there is no word on whether the demo available at the conference will later be made available to the public but it’s safe to assume Team Ninja is preparing for a big showing at the Tokyo Game Show. The screenshots show off the protagonist fighting Yokai players will find in Nioh 2 and showing off his overall abilities.

Lee took to the PlayStation Blog to talk more about the protagonist and locations available in Nioh 2, stating,“Our central character is a half-breed. He is part human as well as possessing the extraordinary power of the Yokai.” He continued, “As a samurai warrior, his journey takes us through the treacherous Sengoku period of Japan. And his transformation from human to fiend will take him deep into the Dark Realm of the Yokai.”
It’s clear that Team Ninja is shaking things up in the upcoming sequel, with the Yokai transformation bringing a new gameplay element to make fights either easier or harder. Hopefully, the “Dark Realm” will allow players to see more of the interesting Yokai designs seen in the previous game.

Although Lee never stated when the game will be released, he ended the post with “Nioh 2 is on the horizon.” Perhaps, this points to an early 2020 release? The game is supposedly being developed for the PlayStation 4, with no word on other console releases so far.
