Earlier this week, EA revealed a timer countdown to the reveal of the next Need for Speed game. Today, they finally revealed the next game in the franchise titled Need for Speed Heat, which will be making its way to PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One on 8 November.
This time, players will be racing in the fictional city of Palm City, which seems very much like Miami. The trailer shows off the title’s racing elements and the customizable options. The trailer seems to show high-octane races against the cops at night and more traditional race events during the day. This means that the time of day could be important in determining which types of races players engage in, and the role they play overall. Though the story is still a bit of a mystery, the Need for Speed series isn’t really known for its ground-breaking narratives.
Although some are excited about Need for Speed Heat, many players don’t feel the franchise has developed much over the years. This will be the 16th game in the franchise and will be produced by Ghost Games, which previously developed Need for Speed Rivals, the Need for Speed reboot, and Need for Speed Payback.
This has raised some concern in fans as Payback wasn’t received well and was heavily-criticised for the use of microtransactions. Creative director Riley Cooper has acknowledged fans’ disappointment with the lack of car and customization variety and promises that Heat will be “tuning up on every aspect.”
It seems that many are unimpressed with the reveal of Need for Speed Heat but only time will tell if the franchise can still sell as well as it did in the past. EA says there will be more gameplay shown off at this year’s Gamescom, so there’s still that to look forward to if you are unsure about picking it up.
Need for Speed Heat will release on November 8th on the PS4, PC, and Xbox One.
