Despite being a PlayStation 4 exclusive, Marvel’s Spider-Man was recently revealed to be the best-selling superhero game in the United States, according to data released by the NPD Group. Mat Piscatella from NPD Group announced the news to celebrate the start of San Diego Comic Con.
The game replaces the former spot holder, Batman: Arkham City. The list does have some other notable entries, such as some Lego games, older Spider-Man games and NetherRealms superhero fighting games Injustice 1 and 2. Despite losing first position, Rocksteady does have something to be proud about as all their Arkham games made the list.

Marvel’s Spider-Man topping the list is really impressive, especially since it was released on a single console, which can hamper sales. It’s more impressive that it’s the only game on the list that is an exclusive. This news will make Marvel happy as they are gearing up for the release of Marvel’s Avengers, which is being developed by Crystal Dynamics.
Although the game’s initial release was not well-received, Marvel has announced that the title will be at SDCC along with some new gameplay footage. As for Rocksteady there has been many rumours as to what game they could be working on, including a Justice League game.
It is amazing to see how far superhero games have come over the span of a few years and how they have covered many genres. If Marvel’s Avengers is a success, we could see a whole new range of superhero games in future.
