While Dragon Ball: Z Kakarot will mainly focus on Goku, it seems that he won’t be the only character that will be playable in the game. According to the newest issue of V-Jump, Vegeta, Piccolo and Gohan will be featured as playable characters in the title’s story mode. These are the first additional characters to be announced as playable.
The news comes from Gematsu and Ryokuta2089 who reported on the listing from the issue of V-Jump. The issue not only listed playable characters but also listed other characters who will make appearances as support characters during fights, such as Krillin, Yamcha, Tien, and Chiaotzu. These characters will respond to the player character’s inputs with button prompts. According to the article, support can help in various ways by either guarding against attacks or pursuing enemies.
While it’s quite surprising that there are other playable characters, since all we’ve seen from gameplay footage is Goku, it makes sense that there are other playable characters due to Dragon Ball Z’s story. According to the article, Vegeta will be playable on Planet Namek, while Gohan and Piccolo will have a special story about their training from the Sayian Saga.
We still don’t know to what capacity these characters will be playable but we can expect to probably see them in new stories. Earlier this year, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama confirmed that the game will feature new canon stories not featured in the manga or the anime.
The announcement is great for any fan who was afraid that they could only play as Goku. Hopefully, more playable characters will be announced in future. Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will release sometime in early 2020, for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
