Funko Pop! figurines have become a worldwide phenomenon in recent years. The small miniature vinyl figures have garnered a strong fan base who love collecting them. Figurine collections include singers, actors, films, comics, and anime. Though, it seems that fans will soon be able to experience their Pops in a completely different way. Digital Platforms and Universal Games have announced that they are making a Funko Pop! puzzle game. The game will be called Funko Pop! Blitz, and will be a match-3 puzzle mobile title.
The game will be rather familiar to anyone who has played a match-3 game. Players will match three characters that will help them in earning points and completing quests. It will also include a Blitz Mode, which will allow for simpler matching. The game will also features characters from various series such as: Shrek, How to Train Your Dragon, Kung Fu Panda and many more.
Speaking on the new game, Universal Brand Development’s EVP of Games and Digital Platforms Chris Heatherly stated, “Funko stands for everything pop culture and seemed to be the perfect way to bring together all of our iconic entertainment franchises, as well as others fans love, into one game.
He continued, “The Pop! style is iconic and unique, and we know that fanatics love to collect everything Funko, which sets this up to be the ultimate character-collecting game. We’re thrilled to extend our collaboration, which started in toys, to the world of digital and gaming.”
The game will be developed by Tic Toc Games (Jam City’s Panda Pop) and will be free-to-play along with in-app purchases. It will release sometime this year for IOS and Android. There will be more information at the upcoming Funko Funkast panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
