Very little is known about the recently announced Mortal Kombat reboot movie, with information about the film’s plot or character castings being scarce. However, recent reports have revealed who will be playing one of the popular fighting game franchise’s most iconic characters; Sub-Zero.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the ice-skilled fighter will be played by Indonesian actor and martial artist Joe Taslim. Taslim is an expert in several martial art styles and a member of his country’s Judo team. He came to prominence when he co-starred in the 2011 martial arts epic The Raid: Redemption. He also appeared in films such as Fast & Furious 6, The Night Comes for Us and, Star Trek Beyond.

As for what else the public knows about the upcoming Mortal Kombat film, James Wan (Aquaman) will be producing the film, while commercial director Simon McQuid will be taking on the role of director. Greg Russo will be handling the screenwriting. Production on the film is set to start later this year in Australia, while a release date of 5 March 2021 has been set. We are sure to learn more about the film as the release date draws nearer.
This isn’t the only video game movie currently in the works with an Uncharted and Just Cause movie also in production. The Mortal Kombat movie is off to a good start with this casting news and hopefully it only gets better from here.
