It seems that we will be getting more of the tricky 2-D shooter Cuphead but in a completely different form. The popular Studio MDHR game will be getting an animated adaptation sometime in future. The TV series will be called The Cuphead Show! and will be produced by Netflix. Studio MDHR’s founders Chad and Jared Moldenhauer will be serving as executive producers on the show.
Netflix and Studio MDHR both announced the show on Twitter. King Features Syndicate will help in creating The Cuphead Show! alongside Netflix Animation. CJ Kettler will serve as executive producer from King Features Syndicate, while Dave Wasston and Cosmo Segurson from Netflix Animation will serve as the show’s producer and co-executive producer respectively. The upcoming series will expand on the world of Cuphead, with the story set to revolve around the game’s protagonist Cuphead and his brother Mugman.

With the game’s art style, it makes perfect sense to turn Cuphead into an animated show as it is inspired by classic Fleischer cartoons from the 1930s. Its 2-D drawn art style was one of the main draws of the game when it was released and was also the reason why it took so long for the game to be completed.
Thus far, the title has been a huge success, launching first as an exclusive on Microsoft platforms and then later being ported to the Nintendo Switch. No other information about the series has been released, which could mean that it is early in its production cycle.
It will be exciting to see the show in action and hopefully the producers will be able to take the animation style of Cuphead and turn it into a very good series. It looks like fans of the game have more than just the upcoming DLC to look forward to.
