Akira Toriyama Says Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot Will Tell New Canon Stories From The Dragon Ball Universe

Akira Toriyama says Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot will cover stories not seen in the anime or manga.

Dragon Ball fans have been eagerly anticipating Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot after it was revealed to be an open-world RPG. Though many feared that we may have to play through the Dragon Ball story again, those fears can be put to rest due to a recent tweet from Bandai Namco. The publisher announced that there will be new stories for the game not seen anywhere else in the anime or the manga.

Bandai Namco recently shared Akira Toriyama’s statement on the game via their official Twitter page. Toriyama had this to share about the game “Dragon Ball Z: KAKAROT is an Action RPG, full of the Dragon Ball universe. It includes backstories that haven’t been told in the manga, and I’m sure fans will truly be able to take a deep dive into the world. It’s a fresh new take on the franchise as you re-live the moment where Goku discovers his Saiyan bloodline and birth name, Kakarot. Experience the battles as they grow to become more and more unrelenting and fierce through cutting edge game visuals. I hope you enjoy the game!”

Bandai Namco talked about some of these new story possibilities back at E3 when they showed off a new trailer. At the event, they even promised never before seen moments to be included in the game. This is first time we’ve seen Akira Toriyama make a direct comment about the game. We don’t exactly know how these new canon stories will be implemented in the game but there is an interest in what kind of stories they will be building.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot doesn’t have an official release date as of yet with it set to launch somewhere in 2020 for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. This may be one of the most interesting Dragon Ball Z video games in some time and these new story features may become a fan favorite.
