Infinity Ward Already Has Cross-Play Working For Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

Cross-play for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is already working between PC, PS4 and Xbox One at Infinity Ward’s studio.

When Infinity Ward announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, they confirmed that the game will have cross-play for PS4, Xbox One, and PC, which would be a first for the series. It was a bit unclear as to how extensive this cross-play would be though, especially with balancing issues being a huge topic of contention. The fear was that PC players would have an advantage over consoles players. Infinity Ward recently confirmed that they already have cross-play up and running at their studio and spoke a bit about how it will work.

Speaking on the feature, Infinity Ward’s narrative director Taylor Kurosaki stated that the feature is already working at Infinity Ward. It seems that the game will join the likes of Fortnite and Rocket League in offering cross-play between PS4 and Xbox One. The big deal comes with the integration of PC being thrown in the mix as it can cause issues with online play. Though it seems that Infinity Ward has already worked out those issues.

The cross-play will work on the same lines as Fortnite. You’ll only be paired with players who have the same control method as you, meaning PC users won’t be able to use their mouse and keyboard advantage. Though it seems there is also the option of mixing control methods if you and a friend want play against each other on a console and PC.

However, there may be some problems with the feature when it comes to Call of Duty‘s PS4 DLC exclusivity deal and how it may affect players on other platforms, even if the deal may only gives PS4 players a few extra days of exclusive access to DLC content.

It seems Infinity Ward is making Call of Duty: Modern Warfare an innovative entry into the series. The reboot is aiming to change how we play Call of Duty games, especially as it be the will feature no season pass. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will launch on 25 October 2019.
