There’s no doubt that 2018’s God of War is regarded as one of the greatest video games in recent memory. It picked up award after award and was even named 2018 Game of the Year at The Game Awards. Since its release, many have been waiting to see when developer Santa Monica Studio would announce a sequel. Though nothing has officially been announced, it is possible that “God of War 2“ is already in the works if recent job listings are to be believed.
Though it’s normal for a studio to post job listings for all sorts of things, the most recent posted seem to be related to God of War. For the most part, the listings are for pretty normal positions at a developing house, such as level designer, cinematic artist, and combat designer, among many other roles. However, some include an additional comment stating “must have knowledge of God of War (2018) and able to speak about the combat systems, mechanics and enemies,” attached to them.
Although this isn’t complete confirmation of a much-anticipated sequel, there have been quite a few Easter eggs and teases that are the developer is already working on a sequel but nothing has been concrete.
God of War 2018 is one of the PS4’s standout exclusives. It boasted extensive graphics and told a mature and gripping story. It also showed that it’s possible to reinvent a gaming franchise without it going horribly wrong. The game was one of the fastest-selling PS4 exclusives ever and has to date sold over 10 million copies, making it the third-highest selling PS4 exclusive, behind only Uncharted 4 and Marvel’s Spider-Man.
It isn’t a surprise that a sequel is in the works due to the ending of the game. Any sequel planned will probably be released for the next PlayStation console. It seems that we won’t see the next God of War for a very long time as the next game seems to be only in the planning stages of development. The last game ensured that many can’t wait to go on another adventure with Kratos and Atreus.
