Earlier this year, Nintendo announced that the next iteration of the puzzle game Dr. Mario is coming to smartphones, and now we have a release date for the game. Dr. Mario World will release on 10 July on Android and IOS. It’s a free-to-play game that includes stages where you can send or receive hearts in exchange for extra stamina. Players can also receive hearts in the game’s battle mode.
The game will follow the same basic rules as previous games, where players destroy viruses by lining up similar colored capsules but there is a twist. Instead of the pills falling down, they will float upwards instead. Your goal is to clear the entire stage of viruses but there will be a limit to how many capsules you will be able to use, meaning you will need to play strategically.
Players will also have a variety of skills, items, and power-ups available at their disposal. There will also be other character additions with Dr. Mario being joined by others like Dr. Peach, Dr. Yoshi, Dr. Bowser, and Dr. Toad. Each character will have their own special abilities, such as Dr. Peach being able to clear an entire column at random.
Nintendo showed off a new trailer for the game displaying how it will be monetised. It will be similar to other puzzle games on smartphone devices. Gameplay will be limited by your heart meter and will refill over time. Players will be able to purchase diamonds to buy power ups, more capsules, and more hearts if they run out of time.
It’s safe to say that Dr. Mario World will receive the same attention to detail that Nintendo’s other smartphone games have received. They also promised there will be five worlds at launch, with more levels to coming to the game later. You can pre-order Dr. Mario World from the Google Play Store and Apple App Store now.
