It was recently announced that the 2013 classic JRPG Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the Witch is getting remastered for current generation consoles. The announcement was quietly revealed during E3 2019. The remastered version will be coming to PS4 and PC, while the Nintendo Switch will be getting the original PS3 version due to technical reasons. The remaster will release on 20 September.
The remastered version will run at 1080p60fps, while the Switch version will run at 720p30fps. The remaster will still have their original game’s mechanics and systems. In fact, all will remain unchanged except for graphics. The remaster comes as a welcome surprise as the original game was well-regarded by many.
The original Ni No Kuni was released in 2013 for the PS3 and was developed by Level-5. The game was praised for its story, graphics, music and design. The art of the game was inspired by Studio Ghibli’s animation and also featured animated cut scenes from the famed studio.
The game tells the story of Oliver as he attempts to rid the world of the evil of the White Witch. He finds many companions along the way as he sets out to save the world. The gameplay featured action-orientated battles in which players used familiars to fight with. There was a Pokémon feel to the game as players can capture and train creatures to add to their arsenal of familiars. The game would spawn a sequel Ni No Kuni 2: The Revenant Kingdom in 2018. The sequel altered combat and featured some other major gameplay changes.
This announcement came as a shock and it’s great that a new audience will get a chance to try it. If you missed out on this amazing title, now is the perfect time to pick it up.
