If you were expecting the creators of the Batman Arkham series at E3, you will be sorely disappointed. Rocksteady co-founder Sefton Hill has confirmed that the development studio will not be attending the event and will be watching it at home. Hill did not state the reason for not attending the event but it is presumed that it is due to their next game not being ready yet.
This wouldn’t be the first time Hill has made these kind of statements. In December 2018, he denied that there would be reveal at The Game Awards and prior to that stated that Rocksteady won’t be at E3 2018. This further drives home the point that they aren’t ready to reveal the game. Since the success of their Batman Arkham series, fans have been eagerly waiting for the Rocksteady next game. It’s been over two years since they last released a game, with their most recent being Batman: Arkham VR.
Rocksteady haven’t revealed what game they are making, which has fans speculating. There are many rumours suggesting that they are working on either a Superman game, or a Justice League game. Some even believe that the developer will be returning to the Caped Crusader.
The most likely conclusion is they will stay in the DC Comics universe. Coincidentally, WB Games Montreal, the developer of Batman: Arkham Origins, is also working on a new game but it’s also a complete mystery. Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment (the parent company of both WB Games Montreal and Rocksteady) will be attending E3 2019, which means there will be something at E3 and it may even be comic book-related.
This confirmation from Rocksteady has suggested that the new game will probably be a title for next-gen consoles. However, this is just speculation, as at the moment, this is all we can do.
What game do you think Rocksteady is working on?
