Shenmue 3 Gets Delayed Again, Will Now Release Late November

Shenmue 3 has been delayed again. It will now release on 19 November 2019.

If you are one of the many fans eagerly waiting to play Shenmue III, you may have to wait just a little bit longer to get your hands on the game. The game was set to release on 27 August. However, a recent update from game director Yu Suzuki and publisher Deep Silver revealed that the game has been delayed again. The game’s new release date is 19 November 2019.

Both Suzuki and Deep Silver said that the reason for the delay is to polish it up before release. They also asked their fans to wait patiently to get a “true Shenmue experience”. This isn’t the first time the game has been delayed since its announcement back at Sony’s E3 2015 press conference with a planned release date of December 2017.  It was delayed to late 2018, after which it was delayed again and slated to release on August 27, 2019. This was until the most recent update where it was delayed to November.

Fans have been patiently waiting for Shenmue III since the release of Shenmue 2 all the way back in 2001. Many thought that the game was dead until its 2015 announcement at E3. The game’s Kickstarter campaign made it into the history books. It reached a record-breaking $6.3 million from 70 000 backers. At the time, it was one the quickest Kickstarter campaigns to reach its goal. After the end of that campaign, the fund-raising continued with a Slacker Backer campaign, which added about another million to the game’s budget.

Though fans may be disappointed with the news, at least the delay isn’t all that long. Players who would like to get up to speed with the story of the game can pick up the Shenmue Collection, which features both Shenmue 1 and Shenmue 2. Shenmue III will release on PS4 and PC on 19 November.
