Dauntless is a free-to-play monster hunting action game that’s been in beta for about a year. It’s mostly inspired by the popular Monster Hunter series and it now has a full launch release date. The game is developed by Phoenix Labs, which is composed former developers from studios such as BioWare, Capcom, Blizzard and Riot Games, the game has been in beta for a while, with the game suffering many full launch delays. It has now been revealed that Dauntless will release on May 21, 2019 on PS4, Xbox One and PC via the Epic Games Store.
Dauntless was very successful in its beta period, reaching a player count of two million. It takes many cues from Capcom’s very successful Monster Hunter series. In concept, it’s very similar to the series as it features online play with players taking down various monsters and beasts which are referred to as Behemoths. Unlike Monster Hunter’s realistic style, it features a cartoon-style and is free-to-play. The game also features a wide range of weapons, armor and locations for players to explore.
Along with the release of the game, the Season 5 Hunt Pass will also release. Phoenix Labs has also stated that any gameplay tweaks, patches and features that were implemented during the beta stage will launch along with the game. There will also be a pack called The Arcslayer available at launch, which will include a range of items to help players.
Phoenix Labs has also stated that the game will also come to the Nintendo Switch and mobile devices in future but no date for this has been set yet. If you enjoyed Monster Hunter, this may be a game to have a go at.
