There was some wonder with regards to the direction Activision would be taking the Call of Duty franchise after releasing of Call of Duty: WW2 in November last year. Earlier this week, rumours suggested that Treyarch’s next effort in the franchise would be an addition the Black Ops series in the form of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.
According to a report by Eurogamer, multiple sources have now confirmed that this year’s Call of Duty title will indeed be Black Ops 4.
It was first suggested that Black Ops 4 would be the next Call of Duty title when a self-proclaimed “industry insider” Marco Sellars claimed such in a tweet on 3 February. Sellars credentials may seem dubious to some, but may be important to note that he did correctly predict the announcement of Dark Souls for the Nintendo Switch as well as Nintendo Labo.
COD 2018 is Black Ops 4 and is coming to PS4/Xbox/PC/Switch. It is set in the modern times and is boots on the ground. The Switch version will support DLC, HD Rumble and motion controls. The Switch version is also being ported by a company which is familar with COD games.

It will be interesting to see what direction is taken in the next Call of Duty title, regardless of whether or not it is actually Black Ops 4 or not. Some have suggested that the next title will most likely have a modern setting, but this still has not been confirmed.
Although Activision does not usually release any information about the next Call of Duty title until around the month of April each year, Treyarch, the developers of the popular Black Ops series, is developing the next title in the series and thus it does make sense that it could possibly be another Black Ops game.
This, however, does not confirm that the next title will indeed be another entry into the Black Ops series. Treyarch could be working on something that will completely surprise fans (but, do keep in mind, this is Call of Duty.)
